Empowering Filipino Nurses in New York
The Philippine Nurses Association of New York, Inc. (PNA NY), established in 1929, is a 501(C)3 non-profit and a Professional Nursing Organization advocating for Filipino American Nurses in the State of New York. The organization serves as a strong collective voice by actively engaging in legislative and policy discussions that influence nursing practice, workplace conditions, and patient care outcomes. PNA NY closely monitors legislation affecting the nursing profession while advocating for policies that promote equity, safety, and professional recognition for Filipino-American nurses.
In addition to its legislative and policy work, PNA NY addresses immigration-related issues that impact internationally educated and immigrant nurses, recognizing the unique challenges they face in licensure, employment, and career advancement. The association is actively working on initiatives that support the professional development of both members and nonmembers, offering continuing education programs, leadership development opportunities, mentorship, and skills-building activities designed to strengthen the nursing workforce. PNA NY also prioritizes community outreach by partnering with Filipino-American communities to promote health education, wellness initiatives, and public service. Through nearly a century of advocacy, education, and service, PNA NY continues to elevate the nursing profession and improve the lives of nurses and the communities they serve.

Advocacy Initiatives
The collaboration between PNANY and PNAA for the first International Educated Nurses (IEN) Policy Summit is proudly recognized as a success. The summit reinforced PNANY’s advocacy-driven mission by fostering collaboration, amplifying nurses’ voices, and emphasizing the vital role of advocacy in shaping policy and improving work environments.
Community Outreach
The PNANY Community Outreach Committee plays a vital role in the efforts of professional nursing organizations, particularly through initiatives such as health fairs and disaster relief programs. Health fairs play a crucial role in promoting wellness by offering free screenings, health education, and resources to underserved populations. These events enable nurses to engage directly with the community, promoting awareness of preventive care and encouraging individuals to take an active role in their health. Additionally, during times of crisis, professional nursing organizations mobilize their members to participate in disaster relief efforts, offering essential support to affected communities.

Professional Development
Educational events organized by professional nursing organizations play a crucial role in the ongoing development and advancement of nursing practice. These events, which include workshops, seminars, and conferences, offer invaluable opportunities for nurses to enhance their skills, stay current with the latest research, and engage in meaningful networking with peers and experts in the field. Through these gatherings, participants can explore emerging trends in healthcare, learn about innovative practices, and earn continuing education credits, all of which contribute to better patient outcomes and professional growth. Moreover, these events foster a sense of community among nurses, empowering them to advocate for their profession and contribute to shaping the future of healthcare delivery in their communities.
Cultural Awareness
The Philippine Nurses Association of New York, Inc. (PNANY) plays a crucial role in fostering cultural awareness within the healthcare sector, particularly as it pertains to nursing practices. By promoting understanding and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds, the PNANY equips nurses with the skills necessary to provide inclusive and sensitive care to patients from various ethnicities. Through educational programs, community outreach, and collaboration with other professional nursing organizations, the PNA emphasizes the importance of cultural competence in improving patient outcomes and strengthening the overall healthcare system. This commitment not only enhances the professionalism of nurses but also ensures that all patients receive equitable and respectful treatment, reflecting the core values of the nursing profession.
